This mural is my latest large-scale work: 40 ft × 12 ft on Wiese Street, directly across from the 16th St. / Mission BART station. The design spotlights a bold close-up of the Ongo character (pink hair, blue face, green eyes with hypnotic red swirls) framed on either side by a green/grey tortoise palette.

Unlike much of my stencil and spray-based work, this wall was painted completely free-hand using only brushes and rollers. The paint itself came straight from the 50%-off rack at Discount Builders Supply. The goal was to create something raw, immediate, and unfiltered, reclaiming the wall with whatever tools were at hand.

Why here?

Wiese Street has been at the center of public debate in San Francisco, covered by outlets like Mission Local and SF Standard, as an alley long marked by homelessness, open-air drug use, and safety concerns. Recently, Public Works added barricades to deter loitering, SFPD has started routine patrolling, and the space has started to feel noticeably cleaner. This mural was my way of leaning into that shift—transforming a wall once synonymous with tension into something bold and uplifting for the neighborhood.

What next?

To keep the momentum alive, I used the exact same paints and palette from the Wiese Street mural to create a small batch of hand-painted pieces on reclaimed city infrastructure (Muni signs, vent covers, and street hardware.) Think of them as portable fragments of the mural: same hypnotic pink, blue, green, and swirl energy, but reimagined at a scale you can actually hang at home (instead of on a 40-foot wall).
